Choosing Pathways in Years 11 and 12: A Guide for Parents of Year 10 Students

At Hope Christian College, we believe that every student is unique and has their own strengths and interests. That's why we offer a range of pathways to ensure that every student can pursue their passions and achieve their goals. Below, you'll find our Year 10 Curriculum Handbook, which will provide you with information on the different pathways available, as well as advice on how to choose the right pathway for your child.

Understanding the Different Pathways

At Hope Christian College, we offer a range of pathways for students as they work towards Years 11 and 12. These include:

  • ATAR (Australian Tertiary Admission Rank): This pathway is for students who want to go to university after finishing school. It focuses on academic subjects and leads to a score that universities use to determine admission.

  • VET (Vocational Education and Training): This pathway provides students with practical skills and knowledge that can be used in the workforce after school. It includes courses such as hospitality, business, and trades. Obtaining VET Certificates can also help students obtain alternative entry to some University courses.

  • General: This pathway is an option that allows students to choose from a range of subjects based on their interests and goals. It's a wise choice for students who wish to pursue work or further training after graduation.

  • Foundation: These courses are designed for students who require support to achieve the minimum standards of Literacy and Numeracy. Students are placed in these courses on the advice of their teachers.

Getting Support

Choosing a pathway can be a challenging process, but there are many resources available to help you and your child make an informed decision. At Hope Christian College, we offer:

  • Subject selection guidance: Our teachers can provide guidance on which subjects align with different pathways, and can help your child choose the right subjects to achieve their goals.

  • Parent information: We hold information evenings to provide parents with more information on the different pathways and the support available. Information from the 2023 Information Evening can be found below.
